몸 끝을 스치고 간 이는 몇이었을까

How many people have passed through my body

 

마음을 흔들고 간 이는 몇이었을까

How many people have shaken my heart

 

저녁 하늘과 만나고 간 기러기 수 만큼이었을까

Was it as many wild geese as the evening sky

 

앞강에 흔들리던 보름달 수 만큼이었을까

Was it the number of full moons

that were swaying in the front river

 

가지 끝에 모여와주는 오늘 저 수천 개 꽃잎도

때가 되면 비 오고 바람 불어 속절없이 흩어지리

The thousands of petals that gather at the end of the branch

will be raining and windy and scattered

 

살아 있는 동안은 바람 불어 언제나 쓸쓸하고

As long as we're alive, it's windy, It's always lonely

 

사람과 사람끼리 만나고 헤어지는 일들도

빗발과 꽃나무들 만나고 헤어지는 일과 같으리

Meeting people and breaking up with each other is

like meeting rain and flowers and breaking up with each other
