산모퉁이 그 너머 능선 위

Beyond the mountain corner, above the ridge

 

해는 처연하게 잠기어만 가고

The sun goes down lonely

 

대륙풍 떠도는 먼 갯벌 하늘 위

Continental winds blow above the distant tidal sky

 

붉은 노을자락 타오르기만 하고

The red glow just burns

 

억새 춤추는 저 마을 뒤 빈 산

The empty mountain behind the village

where silver grass dances

 

작은 새 두어 마리 집으로 가고

A couple of little birds go home

 

늙은 오동나무 그 아래 외딴 집

A derelict house under an old paulownia tree

 

수숫대 울타리 갈바람에 떨고

Cornstalk fence shivering in the autumn breeze

 

황토 먼지 날리는 신작로

Yellow dust blows off the dirt road

 

저녁 버스 천천히 떠나고

The evening bus leaves slowly

 

플라타나스 꼭대기 햇살이 남아

Sunlight remains on top of Platanus

 

길 아래 개여울 물소리만 듣고

In the stream down the road,

only the sound of water flowing

 

먼 바다 물결 건너 산 은사시

Silver poplar on the mountain

across the distant ocean wave

 

날 저문 산길 설마 누가 올까

The darkened mountain path,

Who will come along

 

해는 산 너머 아주 져버리고

The sun disappeared

completely beyond the mountains
