새우마냥 허리 오그리고

뉘엿뉘엿 저무는 황혼을

As the twilight deepens with its waist closed like a shrimp,

 

언덕 너머 딸네 집에 가듯이

나도 인제는 잠이나 들까

Like going over a hill to my daughter's house,

I'm going to sleep slowly now

 

굽이굽이 등 굽은 근심의 언덕 너머

Beyond the hill bent with anxiety

 

골골이 뻗치는 시름의 잔주름 뿐,

Only the wrinkles that have deepened in anxiety,

 

저승에 갈 노자도 내겐 없느니

I don't have the money to go to heaven,

 

소태같이 쓴 가문 날들을

In many days of drought, suffering

 

여꾸풀 밑 대어오던

내 사랑의 보 또랑물

my stream which was turned into a dry grass

 

인제는 제대로 흘러라 내버려두고

Now let it flow freely

 

으시시 깔리는 먼 산 그리메

홑이불처럼 말아서 덮고

Gradually roll up a distant mountain shadow,

like a bedclothes and cover it

 

옛비슥히 빗기어 누워

나도 인제는 잠이나 들까

Lying on the slant, I will fall asleep very slowly
